چکیده

The reduction of fossil CO2 emissions from key relevant industrial processes represents an important environmental challenge to be considered. To enable large-scale deployment low carbon technologies, a significant research and development effort is required optimize the capture systems. This work assesses various hybrid solvent-membrane configurations for post-combustion decarbonization coal-based super-critical power plants. As illustrative chemical solvent, Methyl-Di-Ethanol-Amine was assessed. Various membrane unit locations were assessed (e.g., top absorber, before absorber using either compressor or vacuum pump). All investigated designs have 1000 MW net output with 90% ratio. Benchmark concepts without reactive gas-liquid absorption separation technology also evaluated comparative assessment. Relevant evaluation tools modeling, simulation, validation, thermal integration, etc.) employed assess plant performance indicators. integrated shows that one configuration (membrane located at column) performs better in terms increasing overall efficiency than membrane-only case (by about 1.8 percentage points). In addition, purity captured stream higher membranes (99.9% vs. 96.3%). On other hand, scrubbing concept has superior energy 1.5–3.7

Systems Analysis of Ionic Liquids for Post-combustion CO2 Capture at Coal-fired Power Plants

The main objective of this study is to investigate the feasibility and costs of ionic liquid (IL)-based CO2 capture systems at pulverized coal-fired (PC) power plants. The IL selected for this assessment is trihexyl(tetradecyl)phosphonium 2-cyanopyrrolide ([P66614][2-CNpyr]), achieving a 1:1 and reversible chemical reaction between [2-CNpyr] and CO2. A multi-stage equilibrium-based modeling fra...

Capital Costs and Energy Considerations of Different Alternative Stripper Configurations for Post Combustion Co2 Capture

Capturing and storing the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide (CO2) produced by power plants and factories before it is emitted to the atmosphere could play a major role in minimizing climate change. Among of the different technologies, aqueous amine absorption/stripping is a promising one. In this study 5 different configurations for aqueous absorption/stripping have been compared with regard to cap...

Comparing post-combustion CO2 capture operation at retrofitted coal-fired power plants in the Texas and Great Britain electric grids

This work analyses the carbon dioxide (CO2) capture system operation within the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and Great Britain (GB) electric grids using a previously developed first-order hourly electricity dispatch and pricing model. The grids are compared in their 2006 configuration with the addition of coal-based CO2 capture retrofits and emissions penalties from 0 to 100 US...
